![]() The local IP address (also called internal IP or private IP) is different from the public IP address (also known as public IP). There, click Network to open the relevant options. Click the Apple menu in the top-left of your screen and choose System Preferences to open it, or use Cmd + Space to search for it with Spotlight. This public IP is provided by your ISP(Internet Service Provider) and it is unique. The easiest way to check your Mac's IP address is through the Network panel of System Preferences. Simultaneously, when your device connects to the Internet, an extra IP address known as Public IP is assigned to it. ![]() Your PC is provided a private IP address when you connect to other devices (eg: a router). Other devices refer to the system using this IP address. Similarly, your PC has an “IP address” which is its unique identifier in the network of devices. Select the network connection you use in the list. If your friend wants to send you a postcard, they will ask you for your home or office address. Open the System Preferences application by clicking on it in your Dock, or going to the Apple menu > System Preferences.
